How to Delete Screenshots in Bulk (iPhone and Android)

Published 2026-09-04 · Star Cleaner

Why do screenshots deserve their own sweep?

Screenshots are the most disposable media on a phone: boarding passes, chat fragments, receipts, settings screens — each useful for a day and then permanent by inertia. Because they mix into the camera roll, they hide in plain sight while adding up to gigabytes.

Bulk-delete on iPhone

  1. 1.Open Photos and go to the Screenshots collection: under Media Types in Collections on current iOS, or Albums → Media Types on older versions.
  2. 2.Tap Select, then drag across rows to select in bulk.
  3. 3.Tap the trash icon to delete the selection.
  4. 4.Empty Recently Deleted (in Utilities) to release the space now.

Bulk-delete on Android

  1. 1.Open your gallery app and find the Screenshots album.
  2. 2.Long-press one screenshot to enter selection mode, then select the rest (or use Select all).
  3. 3.Delete, then open the gallery’s Trash/Bin and empty it.

Keeping the five that matter

The risk in bulk deletion is the rare screenshot you still need — though old screenshots are almost never needed again. Star Cleaner isolates screenshots as their own category so nothing else mixes into the sweep: select all in one tap, unselect the few keepers, confirm once. The scan runs on-device, and nothing is deleted without that confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

Do deleted screenshots free space immediately?
Not until the trash empties: Recently Deleted on iPhone holds them up to 30 days, gallery bins on Android up to 60. Empty the trash after a sweep.
Can I automate screenshot cleanup?
You can make it near-automatic: a regular scan that piles screenshots up for one-tap review keeps the album permanently small without deleting anything unseen.
Why do screenshots take so much space?
Modern phone screens are high-resolution, so each screenshot is a full-size image — hundreds of them rival a photo shoot.
