How to Merge Duplicate Contacts on iPhone and Android

Where do duplicate contacts come from?

Every account that syncs contacts — SIM imports, mail accounts, messaging apps, old phone migrations — can write its own copy of the same person. Years later the list holds three half-filled cards per friend and dozens of empty ones with a name and nothing else.

Merge on iPhone

1. 1.Open the Contacts app (or the Phone app’s Contacts tab).
2. 2.Look for the duplicates notice above the list — View Duplicates on current iOS, Duplicates Found on older versions.
3. 3.Review each suggestion and tap Merge, or Merge All after a scan through the list.

Merge on Android
